Behavioral First Responder Course

The Behavioral First Responder course is designed for instructors, administrators, and counselors of all varieties that want to understand common behavioral issues and useful responses within the experiential education context. Our course will teach you overarching theories, models, and techniques adapted from the fields of social work, counseling, and psychology to help you understand why a student is demonstrating a particular behavior and some useful techniques that will help the student through their difficult moment.

  • Course length: 20 hours
  • Cost: $375 per participant
  • Certification last for 3 years.

Who this course is for

The curriculum is specifically designed for Experiential Educators who work in the fields of Outdoor and Adventure Education, Camp Counseling, Wilderness Therapy, or Adventure Therapy. It is important to note that this certification does not make you a therapist or counselor. It is merely designed to give you insight into what is happening on the individual level, and help ensure your student's emotional safety until you can recommend future helpful avenues to them.

Scholarships

Limited scholarships are available for this course. We reserve spaces in this course for the number of scholarships we are able to award. Applicants not awarded a scholarship will not be guaranteed a space in the program. A financial contribution will be required of all scholarship recipients. KSS will not award 100% scholarships.

Steps to Apply:

  1. Complete Scholarship Application before February 26th, 2023
  2. Notification of Decision will be emailed by March 10th, 2023
  3. Acceptance or denial of scholarship will be due within 72 hours of notification.

Scholarship process: Following the application closing date, our Scholarship committee will review applications and make recommendations on financial aid awards. Each applicant will receive notification from Keystone Science School via email on or before the notification of the decision date listed above. Once an award is accepted, the applicants will be given the steps to enroll in the course with the scholarship.
