At Keystone Science School (KSS), rafting is an exciting part of our summer programs, including Discovery Camp, Adventures, and Pathfinder Day Camp. Rafting isn’t just about thrills on the water, it’s a chance to experience river ecosystems firsthand. Each trip is unique, as the river changes with every season based on the snowmelt. Campers feel the power of the water, see the river change, and navigate the rapids. Encounters that bring them closer to nature in an unforgettable way.
They not only enjoy the adventure, but they also gain invaluable life skills like teamwork and problem-solving.

The Importance of Rafting in Our Summer Camps
Rafting plays a key role in our summer programs by combining outdoor adventure with important skill-building. While rafting, campers work together to solve problems, communicate effectively, and make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment. These skills, teamwork and problem-solving, are essential both on the river and in life. Whether it’s figuring out how to paddle through rapids or supporting teammates during the journey, rafting encourages collaboration and builds confidence.

Our Trusted Rafting Partner: American Adventure Expeditions (AAE), Liquid Descent (LD), and Colorado Adventure Guides (CAG)
Our rafting trips are made possible through our long-standing partnership with American Adventure Expeditions, Liquid Descent, and all local rafting companies that share our passion for outdoor education and adventure. Discovery campers raft with American Adventure Expeditions, Pathfinders raft with Liquid Descent and Adventure rafts with Colorado Adventure Guides or AAE. With their expert guides and focus on safety, they ensure that every rafting trip is both exciting and educational.
Their knowledgeable guides know the river like no one else, and they’re dedicated to providing a fun, safe experience while allowing campers to experience the natural world in a hands-on way.

Safety and Logistics of Rafting at KSS
When it’s time for rafting, campers are transported in a KSS van to the rafting destination. For safety and comfort, everyone wears a helmet and life jacket. The companies provide wetsuits, water booties and optional jackets for extra warmth, ensuring that campers stay comfortable no matter the weather. Before hitting the rapids, the expert guides at AAE, LD, and CAG lead a safety briefing and offer a quick lesson on how to paddle effectively and communicate with the group during the ride. This ensures that everyone is prepared, confident, and ready to take on the river in a safe and controlled environment. There are two trip options available for our Discovery Campers: a more mild rafting trip (class 2 and under) and a more robust trip that handles class 3 rapids. Depending on the age of the camper, they will get placed into one of these trips.

Ready for an adventure on the river? Join us at KSS next summer and experience rafting in a way that’s all about teamwork, problem-solving, and unforgettable fun! Registration will open in January 2026!
