Camp Legends and Warriors (CLAW)

_____________

Every summer at Keystone Science School, with the backdrop of towering pines and the pristine waters of Dillon Reservoir, a legendary event unfolds at Discovery Deluxe – Camp Legends and Warriors, or CLAW for short. It’s a time when campers become entwined in an epic battle of camaraderie and competition, where alliances are forged, challenges are faced, and memories are made to last a lifetime.

Picture this: the sun is shining, the air is filled with anticipation, and suddenly, CLAW breaks loose. The entire camp session is divided into five teams, each with its own unique identity and mission. The Blue Mermaids, The Green Zombies, The Red Pirates, The Gold Bandits, and The Hot Pink Gorillas, each bring their own flavor to this spectacular showdown.

Let’s delve into the lore of each team:

The Blue Mermaids: Nestled beneath the tranquil waters of the Dillon Reservoir lay the majestic Old Town of Dillon. Beneath the surface, hidden from the eyes of humans, thrived a secret underwater community known as the Blue Mermaids. These enchanting beings were unlike any other, their scales shimmering with dazzling shades of blue that seemed to mirror the depths of the lake itself. For generations, the Blue Mermaids had safeguarded the underwater town, protecting it from harm and preserving its rich history. They are known for their kindness and wisdom, however, can be sometimes seen fighting off the Red Pirates who try to plunder their precious pearls, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the CLAW saga.

The Green Zombies: In the secluded woods surrounding Keystone Science School’s campus, an unexpected phenomenon emerged–the Green Zombies. Created by the overindulgence of modern technology, these creatures were once teenage campers consumed by the screens. Their existence was a result of excessive phone usage and TV marathons during summer retreats. Now, occasionally wandering into the school’s campus, they are surprisingly friendly, a gentle reminder of the dangers of technology overuse. Embracing their newfound green-hued existence, they symbolize the need to strike a balance between the digital world and the wonders of nature.

The Red Pirates: In the heart of the Rockies, lay Lake Dillon, a vast expanse of water hidden amidst towering peaks. But this lake held more than just pristine beauty–it hid a secret treasured by the Red Pirates, a notorious crew known for their humor and love for adventure. Captain Redbeard, a cunning and charismatic leader with a fiery beard to match his fiery spirit, commanded the Red Pirates. His eyes gleamed with a relentless ambition to plunder the deepest secrets of the lake. The most coveted prize for Redbeard and his crew were the pearls that adorned the necks of the elusive Blue Mermaids.

The Gold Bandits: In the heart of Keystone, Colorado, a legend lives on–the tale of the Gold Bandits, relentless seeker’s of “Tom’s Baby,” a fabled chunk of gold dating back to the Gold Rush era. Since time immemorial, they’ve scoured the mountains, driven by the allure of untold riches. Their journey led them to the Keystone Science School’s campus, where they found both hospitality and the allure of scientific tools. The bandits occasionally drop by to swap stories, combining their quest for gold with the pursuit of knowledge, leaving a trail of adventure in the high-altitude air of the Rocky Mountains.

The Hot Pink Gorillas: The Hot Pink Gorilla (HPG) has been wandering the hills of Keystone, Colorado for as long as the Keystone Science School has been around. The HPG frequents KSS campus, and for many years campers have been conducting research trying to find out more about this unique creature. Named in honor of this most beloved wildlife legend, the Hot Pink Gorillas embody the spirit of adventure and discovery. With their vibrant presence and mysterious allure, they add an extra dash of excitement to CLAW, leaving campers intrigued and eager for more.

For two thrilling days, campers dive into a whirlwind of challenges, bonding activities, and friendly competition. From the adrenaline-fueled CLAW race around camp to enthusiastic team chants, each moment cultivates teamwork and camaraderie. Dressed all out in their team color, they tackle scavenger hunts, participate in team building activities, and cheer on teammates during relay races.

But CLAW is more than just a game; it’s a journey of self-discovery, resilience, and bonding. As campers navigate the twists and turns of the competition, they forge lifelong friendships, discover hidden talents, and learn valuable lessons in teamwork and sportsmanship.

And as the sun sets on another unforgettable CLAW adventure, campers depart with hearts full of memories, minds buzzing with stories, and a renewed sense of connection to the legends and warriors that define the spirit of Keystone Science School.

So, are you ready to join the ranks of the Blue Mermaids, Green Zombies, Red Pirates, Gold Bandits, and Hot Pink Gorillas? The next CLAW awaits, and the adventure of a lifetime awaits those bold enough to seize it.
